In February/March of 2010 Cause Célèbre in collaboration with Tina’s Wish produced the first part of Recipe For Life which had just the right ingredients--award-winning writers, actors and directors.  Audiences were privy to this winning combination for an entire week.  Recipe For Life/Part Two returned to the beautiful Acorn Theatre on 42nd Street with a brand new program, new actors and new plays. The right combination, whether it is in cooking or in theatre, can make or break the outcome, creating a mouth-watering meal or an unforgettable evening in theatre.  The following combinations created a night out that will be savored for a long time.

“THE SHOEMAKER" is more than a play. It is an emotionally riveting experience. It is a complex drama. It is a story that will stay with you for a very long time.

Made into a film called "A Broken Sole" and described by Jeffrey Lyons (NBC/Reel Talk) as: "DEEPLY COMPELLING. A film that takes chances and comes up a WINNER. With a BRAVURA PERFORMANCE BY DANNY AIELLO."

A shoemaker is frantic to close his shop early. A woman with a broken sole is desperate for him to keep the shop open. A pair of shoes on a shelf await the return of its owner, who will never return for them. The day is a unique day. The characters will never be the same.

Amanda Wingfield (the mother in The Glass Menagerie) considered young girls to be a pretty trap and hence the title of Williams’ precursor to his "Menagerie" masterpiece.  "The Pretty Trap" was first presented by Food For Thought, the sister company of Cause Célèbre, and was considered by Williams to be a comedy.  Another winning combination--theatre icon Elaine Stritch playing one of the quintessential Williams characters.

“THE PRETTY TRAP"

by Tennessee Williams

“INTERIOR PANIC”

by Tennessee Williams

Directed by Christopher Hart

Starring Johanna Day, Tasha Lawrence, Jake Robards and Michael Citriniti

Before there was "A Streetcar Named Desire" there was "Interior Panic."  Written in 1945, this little gem by seems to be the only real one-act version of Williams' full-length masterpiece.  The names in the one-act version have changed and so has the ending. In 1945 he wrote to his agent, Audrey Wood, about the way in which he envisioned the ending of "Streetcar."  "There are at least three possible ends.  One, Blanche simply leaves, with no destination.  Two, she goes mad.  Three, throws herself in front of a train in the freight in the freight-yards."
